About Kate
Hello! I’m a sports broadcaster, writer, MC and travel journalist with experience across a variety of platforms.
I’m a female host and play-by-play commentator on the A-League Women, field hockey league Hockey One, Swimming Australia’s Age and National Championships, as well as American football (gridiron/NFL), and NFL flag football in Australia. I have worked as a TV presenter on Channel 10 News First in Sydney, and as sideline reporter on various sports both here and overseas.
I am the executive producer and narrator of sports documentary Making It, which headlined the 2023-24 Women’s Adventure Film Tour.
Looking for a commentator or sports anchor with a female voice, knowledgeable and engaging presence? Don’t hesitate to get in touch.
My background
My unique combination of skills and experience comes from more than a decade working in the media in multiple platforms and across different spheres. After graduating from the University of NSW with honours in a double degree of media (majoring in journalism) and law, I began my career as a legal and court reporter. I interviewed Prime Ministers, Premiers, CEOs and celebrities and worked as Associate Editor of award-winning magazine LSJ. I hosted conferences nationally and internationally, conducted C-suite interviews and became a trusted voice in the world of legal reporting, investigations, analysis and feature-writing.
Of course, my passion for sport and my background as a high school and college athlete was always going to steer me into the world of sports broadcasting and reporting. These days, alongside TV commentary and hosting or anchoring broadcasts, I’m a recognised authority in sport across publications including The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun and The Australian, The Guardian Australia, Forbes Australia, Women’s Golf Magazine, Tracks magazine, Snowsbest.com, Mountainwatch, Chillfactor and ABC Sport. I’m also a travel fiend, skier and surfer and write regularly for travel publications including Escape, Traveller, Men’s Journal (USA) and Snowsbest.com.
I am a board member on the Kennedy Foundation for Journalism. I am the co-founder of Australia’s Equal Pay for Equal Play campaign, and in 2022 was nominated for the Walkley Foundation’s June Andrews Award for Women’s Leadership in Media for my work advancing women athletes and women in sport. I was a finalist for Young Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year at the Mumbrella Publish Awards across six different years, and was named Young Journalist of the Year by the NSW Council for Civil Liberties in 2021.
I trained in Advanced TV and Radio presenting at the Australian Television, Film and Radio School (AFTRS) in Sydney. My combination of broadcast-level presentation skills, organisation, approachability and experience interviewing a range of personalities means I am regularly called upon to host live events, panel discussions and awards nights.
